Natural Resources

Natural resources (for example, liquid and solid mineral resources) should be converted to man-made goods and services in a reasonable, systematic and sustainable manner. We cannot and should not continue to merely export raw materials to the rest of the world. To major in the export of raw materials is an outright disservice to humanity and an insult on our intelligence and creative abilities.

Inventions and innovations in Science and Technology play a very, very big role here. The conversion of natural resources to useful man-made goods and services promotes outstanding creativity. Also, these goods and services would be a major income earner and a massive job creator. At the end of the day, we will witness peace and prosperity; a higher standard of living and a greatly improved quality of life of the people.

Here's a sample video am sharing with you in line with encouraging creativity in Africa. I work as a Technology Developer with inventors and innovators to improve on their work. It's all about promoting inventions and innovations in Science and Technology in Africa. The video shows an inventor, Emeka Nelson. It shows two key inventions we are working on:
1) A generator powered by water.
2) A waste renewable system that converts non-biodegradable materials like plastics into petroleum products - fuel.

In the summer of 2004, venture capitalist Peter Thiel made a $500,000 (About N200,000,000.00) angel investment in the social network Facebook for 10.2% of the company and joined Facebook's board. This was the first outside investment in Facebook.

In April 2005, Accel Partners invested $12.7 million (N5,080,000,000.00) into Facebook.

In April 2006, Facebook closed its Series B funding round. This included $27.5 million (N11,000,000,000.00) from a number of venture capitalists, including Greylock Partners and Meritech Capital, plus additional investments from Peter Thiel and Accel Partners. The valuation for this round was about $500 million (N200,000,000,000.00).

A leaked cash flow statement showed that during the 2005 fiscal year, Facebook had a net gain of $5.66 million (N2,264,000,000.00).

A close look at this Facebook example shows one thing: No where would you see that the U.S. government gave a kobo to Facebook. (But it provided an "enabling environment".) All the monies there came from Angel Investors. 

Nigerians need a massive mental, mindal shift. More of our millionaires and billionaires MUST see the importance of investing MONEY into homegrown Science and Technology companies. 

The general public also needs to be properly informed about this as well. We have very powerful, successful and influential banks today because millionaires, billionaires and the general public rallied together, bought shares, poured money into our homegrown banks. This must also be replicated in our Science and Technology companies. And as we do this, we'll become more self-reliant. We'll have a robust economy. We'll drastically reduce poverty.

Innovations in Electricity and Going-Green - 3 Examples

A Nigerian, Emmanuel Obayagbona develops a 12-hour renewable rechargeable solar emergency lighting system. Creative and inventive minds in ‪#‎Africa‬ should be identified, supported and celebrated.

Another Nigerian, Emeka Nelson creates an electricity generator that is powered by water (Hydroelectric Generator). He also invented what he calls the "MGBANWE C12", a machine that turns non-biodegradable wastes like plastics, waterproof nylon, etc into petrol, kerosene, diesel and some other heavy oils and interlocking stones. Creative and inventive minds in Africa should be identified, supported and celebrated. Instead of marrying a 3rd wife or building a 4th house you would hardly ever sleep in, invest that money in people like Emeka Nelson and Emmanuel Obayagbona. African "angel investors" must arise!

You may not have money to invest. But you can share this post. You can spread the message in different ways. You can petition your elected officials to do more in ensuring the growth of the Science & Technology sector of the economy. Always remember, a country that does not produce man-made goods and services will always lag behind. Choose prosperity today! And WORK for it!

Why can't Nigeria harness and develop her natural resources??

Nigeria is blessed w/ natural resources: crude oil, gold, diamond, silicon, etc, etc. But is Nigeria blessed w/ d intelligence, discipline, and organization needed to harness and transform these raw materials to finished goods?

"YES, we have gold, silver, crude oil, silicon, etc, etc. What if the WEST leaves Nigeria, takes away all her tools, equipments, machines, computers, technocrats, technologies... What will then happen to those "natural resources"? What do u think Nigeria wld do? What wld d citizens of Nigeria do?" FOOD FOR THOUGHT!

y can't Nigeria harness and develop her natural resources - from raw goods to finished goods? y is Nigeria not investing time and money in home-grown intellectual property, inventions, Science & Tech Industries, etc... y is Nigeria not building the tools, machines, and equipments needed to process the raw materials to finished goods?

y is Nigeria not excelling in technology? y rely on d WEST or d EAST to come do all these things for us? Besides, when they turn around and rip us off, we open our mouths and begin to complain... Where r our OWN home-grown research institutes?? Are they competitive globally?? What is the problem with us??

A major reason y Nigerian professionals excel abroad BUT fail to replicate same in their country is this: DISUNITY... and i may add: TRIBALISM... NEPOTISM... They may excel individually and work well w/ foreigners abroad... But bring these same ppl under 1 umbrella and u begin to hear stories. And we r 'cursed' w/ visionless leaders who r not interested in funding RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT in Science & Tech!

We don't have a "prevailing culture" that encourages and celebrates scientific and technological inventions. Hmmm... Very important!

Also, without apologies (and speaking soberly), i think Nigerians r not pushing themselves enough to tap into their God-given creative imaginations when it comes to inventions and innovations in Science & Tech... d % that does is just too, too low...

And we r 'cursed' w/ visionless leaders who r not interested in funding RESEARCH in Science & Tech!

i think d TICs r still there. we have one in Warri. i spent some valuable time there in '07/'08 in my bid to promoting Science n Technology... i think the Nigerian masses need to be sensitized of the gr8 need for Nigerians themselves 2b directly involved in inventions/innovation NOW... YES, we shd put pressure on d govt. we shd also put pressure on ourselves... e.g. we have rich ppl who don't know wot to do w/ their money... They said, "We used magnetic flux to generate electricity which the conventional magnet cannot.
